I’m in luuuuurv!

Howdy folks!

I have a new love…

henni

<3!

Presenting…Henni! She’s the white MacBook in that there picture…wow, this post is almost borderline creepy! Still, she is a lovely machine ^_^

Anyhoo, here’s a render:

boy

Also, what’s that on my MacBook Pro? WHO KNOWS

I’m a cross-dressing homosexual pacifist with a spot on my lung?

So folks! You should see Across the Universe because it is very very good. Also, I very much enjoyed seeing it last night. ^_^

Anyhoo. I’ve been tossing this up for a while, but I do believe it’s time for a logo change! There are a few reasons for this: one, the colour scheme doesn’t really work too well in most situations. It essentially means that the background has to be white. As well as that, the ‘Scrub’ bit doesn’t feel strong, mainly because it’s all lower-case. Lastly, the font for the Studios bit, while free, would have certain ramifications for an official business. Legal ramifications! The BAD kind.

As a result, I’ve started doing some mockups for a new logo. Here’s one of them:

new-logo

Remember, I said 'mockup'.

Well, frankly, this is awful, but it’s a start. And I’m totally not trying to channel Pixar’s spirit by tacking on ‘Animation’. Honest! I suppose I’d have to ask if ‘Scrub’ sounds better than ‘Scrub Studios’. I think its cuter?

These costumes are the bomb!

First up: I thought I’d make you folks a lovely, Scrub Studios flavoured image that perhaps you might want to use as a desktop image! Who knows.

AWW

Now, I know one person knows where this is from and to that one person, I say this: there is an improved version of it coming!

Onto news: yesterday, I went and saw two films. Two! It was a red letter day. The first was Dreamworks new film, Monsters VS Aliens. It was surprisingly entertaining in a silly way: very reminiscent of old Warner Brothers cartoons and Mars Attacks. It was shown in stereoscopic 3D, a technology I’m still not a fan of. Dreamworks still went down the cheesy route of making stuff fly out of the screen at you. The experience gives everything a nice sense of depth, but you lose clarity. As well as that, having to wear glasses for the entire duration is a bit irritating. But hey, the film was swank.

The second, and probably more important film I saw was the premiere of a new Australian claymation piece. Created by Adam Elliot (whom you might remember as the AUSTRALIAN dude who WON AN OSCAR for his short film, Harvie Krumpet), Mary and Max is a charming film about a little Australian girl and her 50 year old, American pen-pal. While it does sound like the perfect recipe for Whoa-Don’t-Go-There soup, it’s actually quite good. The booklet for the film suggests that it’s ‘innocent, but not naive’, something that I have to agree with. It’s bittersweet, bleak and optimistic all at the same time. And it’s funny!

So, I urge anyone who happens to stumble on this site (particularly if you’re Australian) to go see this film! It’s released next Thursday, so make the effort. If you don’t, it’ll just demonstrate to the government and the world that Australia’s not worth it for creative talent! AND THAT DIRECTLY HURTS MY CHANCES AT DOING THINGS

Quick: help me prop up vegetable man or we’re done for!

Tonight I thought I’d do something different. I decided to progress to drawing original characters! OMGWTFBBQ. Anyhoo, here you go:

snooze

Well, he certainly looks comfy

Granted, he is somewhat inspired by the style of Rad Sechrist and yesterday’s character and yes, it’s nowhere near as good, but hey: gotta start somewhere.

In other news, I did other stuff today: my portfolio has been updated, so a bunch of missing content is now in place and stuck down with really good sticky tape. Also, I added a level design section, because someone told me to. Thanks, someone? Also, I have begun animating that tree from a while ago, so I should have a video of that up soon. ALSO I have started a new animated short! ALSO I have tweaked the kajiggers out of my little boy from Love is a Stranger. Now, back to work!

Open the gates and abandon hope, we’re the ghosts of the kids who got hooked on dope!

Nothing today.
I couldn’t find a sharpener.
Lame excuse, I know, but it’s the truth. Guys: I am facing a sharpener shortage.

She likes my spaaaark! Ha ha ha!

Way too tired to do anything today unfortunately: I got home only a little while ago after a hard days work! I will have stuff tomorrow though, promise. :>

Oh Dear

It would seem that the WordPress update that I nabbed yesterday has wreaked havoc with the theme I’m using! As such, you’ll have to make do with this crazy ass version of my blog until the dudes who make the theme get around to fixing it.

A Moment of Your Time…

I don’t really have anything to show you all today, but I thought I’d take a moment to urge anyone that reads this here little blog to donate to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal. As most of you probably know, the Australian state of Victoria was utterely ravaged by some very severe bushfires. Australians have opened their hearts up and donated to this worthy cause: to date, 173 people have tragically lost their lives, and thousands of homes have been lost.

Guys, it would be really awesome if you could plug a little bit of your hard-earned cash into this! I have: it makes you feel good. :>

I Want a DB9.

Time to regale you with Melbourne adventures! The most exciting of them would have to be sitting in the drivers seat of an Aston Martin DB9. That…that was a pant-wetting moment, folks.

So I was in Melbourne and near Eureka tower (that big tower they’ve got). Turns out there’s an Aston Martin dealership right underneath it, so we thought “What the hell!” and had a bit of a peek. We figured we weren’t allowed to go in, given we were poor schmoes, but a lady came out and said it was ok to go in, so we did!

Trying desperately not to pee my pants here

So I told the salesman that it was my favourite car ever and I’d never seen one in the flesh before, and he said it was totally fine to take a look. He went off for a bit while we took photos like dorks. Then he came back and said “If its your favourite car, you might as well sit in the drivers seat”.

:O !

REALLY trying not to pee my pants

REALLY trying not to pee my pants

Basically, the dude knew I wasn’t buying and that I was a really big fan of the car, which is why he spent 15 minutes or so basically telling me how cool the cars are. Not that I needed telling. Anyhoo, thankyou Aston Martin dude! When I scrouge up the $410,000 or so needed to buy one, I WILL CONSULT YOU.

In other news, here’s a leaf:

love-tree-02

It's a leaf.

This is still for Love is a Stranger: after finishing the main character, I thought I’d try something different and do some props. Decided I’m gonna go all out on this video: no shonky props like Come Alive! It’s a bit high-poly at the moment, but oh well. It looks pretty!  Might be a little hard to see texture detail, but it’s there. Still gotta finish the texture, then add a bump map. Also, the black outline: I’m thinking of putting it into Love is a Stranger, but I am not sure yet.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Ok, so I haven’t updated for a day or so. There is a reason! I’ve been working at JB Hi-Fi (yay money) and by the time I get home I am so pooped that I can barely read. As well as that, I’ll be leaving on Wednesday for places unknown (well, not really) and so I won’t be able to update. Hopefully I’ll be able to do some 3D work there though, so maybe I’ll have stuff when I come back.

Also, please don’t rob me while I’m gone, because it’s really not too beneficial for me?
