Hey! I have returned! And I notice that my stuff is still here. Guys: thanks for not stealing my stuff.
So…what’s been doing you ask? Nothing much…I went to Melbourne for a bit and did a bunch of things, some of which were awesome! I shall regale you with some tales later perhaps, but for now, here’s something you’ve been seeing a lot of lately around here:
HE’S DONE
Classic comedy? HECK YES.
Well, I said I’d have a shoe texture for you today and since I am one to make an effort not to disappoint, here it is! Even if the end result is disappointing. But I never said it’d be awesome…
Anyhoo, 3 shots for you: shoes at a medium, close up and then a full body. Yay for progress! I hope you’re not getting sick of all of the same stuff: I’ll try and remedy that tomorrow with a 2D concept of this little guy’s co-star.
Still have to tackle that dastardly hair (oh dear), the hands and cuff (which won’t take long), redo the scarf (the bit around his neck, not the dangly bit) and then do some new concepts for the mouth. Then he’ll be done! Aside from the rigging… :’<
(The z makes it cool)
No i-x work today: nope, we are back to good ‘ol 3D. And without further stalling for time:
So, he has textures now! Not all over, but some (namely the scarf, face, pants and torso). First time I’ve done proper UV mapping too! And proper texturing! Come Alive basically had Maya materials on everything (aside from the trees), so yeah…he’s so much more complex and detailed than the previous dude.
Hello! Welcome to 2009 and more of this blog. Someone called my method of writing ‘idiolect’. I think I like that! Granted, it implies that I am an idiot, but perhaps that’s not so far from the truth… :O
Anyhoo, what better way to ring in a new year than with work that I started last year! Well, if you can think of a better way to ring it in, then I’d very much like to hear about it. It would probably make my new years eve parties a little more spicy.
Ok, so you might have noticed a few things if you possess eagle’s eyes (and if you do, I hope they weren’t taken by nefarious means!). First up, he lacks hair. Mainly because I have no idea how to model it. I had the exact same problem with the last version of the character, to the point where what I could achieve in Maya became the new hairstyle which is not really a good way to work.
The second thing is, I’ve removed his nose. ‘You cruel bastard!’, you’re probably saying (all 2 of you). I have reasons though! For one, the original art didn’t feature a nose, cos I had the intention just to add it in during the modelling. But then I noticed that the mouth just wouldn’t work properly with the nose there in 3D! So I tried a version without the nose and banzai: it looks better. I think anyway!
So, what’s left to do here? Plenty. He needs hair (somehow). Then I need to finish his scarf (I’m gonna go all fancy and pull Maya’s cloth stuff out of the box). Then UV mapping (uh oh). Then texturing (oh man). Then rigging (oh dear!). And that’s just one character! There is another character, who I’ll show a concept of tomorrow perhaps.
Oh, and who wants to give me a job of some kind? I have been working at JB Hi-Fi Bondi Junction for the last few weeks, but Christmas is over and I might get turfed out. :< Job in the CGI industry plz kthx.
Fresh from my 2D exploits comes something a little closer to my homebase! Well, a lot closer. Mainly because it’s a 3D render. And you know, I kinda like to do 3D stuff?
So basically, it’s a pretty early render, but he’s been tweaked since the last time I worked on him. He used to look like this:
If you can’t see the difference then it’s off to the optometrist for you, my friend! If you prefer the old one, well, shame on you!
