In other news, I’m looking for talented writers interested in writing for an interesting blog experiment I wish to conduct. A through understanding (and passion) for video games and technology is a must, as is the ability to convey a unique and insightful voice.

An Open Letter to George Lucas

Dear George

It is my opinion that you are entitled to do to your films what you see fit. They are yours and if you feel that they do not adequately fulfil your vision for their respective stories, and you are able to do something about it, then, by all means, please tinker and tweak to your hearts content. As someone who wrestles with the outcome of creative ability constantly, I fully understand your desire to reshape your films. If this allows future generations to be amazed by what they’re seeing on screen, then I can’t think of a possible problem with that.

What I would love to ask, however, is to please try and appease those who were inspired by a different version of your films. I will not say ‘better’ or ‘worse’ versions: those words are highly subjective and cannot be used in this situation. The only word that can describe these earlier versions is ‘different’.

There are millions of people around the world who were inspired by earlier versions of your films. We know the beat of the films, we know the flow and we were amazed and delighted by these versions. These versions, I imagine, pushed many of those people into successful film careers (or burgeoning), and influenced their work to this very day. They are versions that, while they may not be your ultimate editions, are so deeply embedded and ingrained in our subconsciousness and soul that they almost become second nature.

We are deeply humbled by these films.

We can only ask that they be preserved, along with your intended editions of the films, so that we can carry this wonderful time capsule with us into our careers and our futures. There’s room in the world for all of us to be happy.

Hiatus!

Despite me only just getting the site up and running again, I’m here to announce that all activity will be on hiatus for four weeks. Why? Because I will not be in good ‘ol Australia: I will be in good ‘ol America instead, where I presume they don’t not have the Internet or even computers for that matter. So, you’ll all just have to wait until I return to civilisation before stuff happens around here. Sorry! With any luck though, I’ll be returning with a new project to show you.

Ok, a bit more news.

The site is slowly coming back online. I’m uploading new pages everyday (all the grid images on the home page now link to their respective projects) and tidying up the design as I go along. As such, a lot of stuff will be broken, or lead to the coming soon page. These will, hopefully, reduce as I chug along at this.

Having said that, I will be postponing work on the website for four weeks starting on July 18 because I’ll be in the good ‘ol US of A! I’ll be coming back with a pile of awesome stuff, and soon after that, a brand new project! Excitement!

Oh, and this blog will eventually have a theme that matches the main site. Eventually.

Just a quickie today. Granted, it took ages to make, but meh! I will buck the trend slightly and offer some quick advice: always draw something before you go ahead and make it, even if it’s just a simple sketch. It’ll give you so much focus when you’re actually in the process of creating it.
